Moodle Course Administration Settings In Detail Grok Knowledge Base
PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to save any content from courses that are older than 18 months, you have several options. The first option is to download and save the content to your own computer. The second option is to import the content into a Blueprint Course in Moodle. For each course you teach, you can get a single Blueprint Course created. Instructors can use a Blueprint Course to create and store content for a course to be taught in a future semester. Students do not get enrolled in Blueprint Courses.
For instructions on how to request a Blueprint Course, please visit GROK 20175: Request a Blueprint Course. Are you a student? If so, see: Moodle: Student Home Page: LSU Overview Watch the short video below for a quick overview of Moodle for Instructors. The Faculty Technology Center (FTC) provides Moodle support by email, by phone, or live through Zoom. For contact information, please see the article Faculty Technology Center: LSU Overview.
To connect through Zoom and for further information on support services and training, see the LSU Online & Continuing Education Faculty Resources & Support page. To access the course settings, click on the Administration Menu Gear Icon and then select Edit Settings. Course full name - Name of the course as it appears on the course page and under My Courses. (not editable by the instructor)
Course short name - A shorthand version as a possible secondary way to search for the course. Often the same as the Course full name. (not editable by the instructor) Enable download course content - This setting determines whether course content may be downloaded by users with the download course content capability. This overrides the activity setting. Course start date - This defaults to the official start date on the LSU Academic Calendar for that semester.
When Outcomes are added to a course, Moodle will automatically place the outcomes menu item in the assessment activities’ settings. The outcomes must be added and assigned in order, first at the course level and then at the activity level. The scales associated with an outcome can be set when the outcome is added, and they can only be changed if the outcome is not selected for use with an activity. The following are the available scales: For information on how to include outcomes in grade aggregation, see below. For most activities, the instructor must choose which of the outcome(s) added to the course (as described above) apply to that specific activity using the checkboxes in the activity's settings.
Reminder: Outcomes will not be in the activity settings if there are no outcomes set for the course. In the activity settings, select the outcomes that apply. Blocks in Moodle are small content areas that contain important tools and functions for managing a Moodle course. Blocks are located in three places in Moodle: on the My Home page, at the bottom of the My Courses page, and in the block drawer. The block drawer on the Moodle front page or in a Moodle course is an area where an instructor can add or access blocks. The block drawer is located on the Moodle sidebar at the right side of most Moodle pages.
The blocks that appear in the sidebar may be different depending on whether the user is on the Moodle front page or the course page. Users with a teaching role in a course (including TAs) can add or remove blocks from the course block drawer. All user roles can add blocks to the My Home page. For instructions, see the article Adding a Block. The following list of blocks are currently available for the My Home page and/or block drawer. The most commonly used are followed by an asterisk (*) and linked to more details in this article.
Those not marked with an asterisk will link to the Moodle Docs information in a new tab, except for Panopto which links to the GROK article. After a block is added and while you are still in edit mode, you can click the ellipsis menu icon on the block to see the editing options: Using these settings, you can hide or show a block, or remove it from your course block drawer. Some blocks need to be configured. PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to save any content from courses that are older than 18 months, you have several options.
