The Civic Literacy Curriculum is a free resource for teaching and learning American civics that provides students with a deep knowledge of U.S. history and American civics. It contains over 100 free lessons, including the historical background, annotated primary texts, discussion prompts, and other tools to make it easy for teachers and students. Unlike most currently available civics programs that focus on action civics or civic engagement, the CLC focuses on civic knowledge, how the Constitution’s structure operates, and the founders' ideals underlying our system of government. The CLC is currently available solely in a format designed for an advanced high school level, but it has users in 39 U.S. states and territories.

In the last five years, the Center for American Civics has developed a suite of more than 500 lessons for learners at all levels on American Civics teaching constitutional principles and history to hundreds... Q: What is the mission/work of your organization? What problem(s) in civics education is your nonprofit working to solve? Our mission is to provide resources and training in American civics, especially related to American constitutionalism, to teachers, students and other learners. Because we are housed within the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership (SCETL) at Arizona State University, we have access to one of the strongest contingents of faculty specializing in American constitutionalism... We seek to fulfill our mission through four primary approaches:

Empowering Educators: Our teacher development workshops provide K-12 educators, especially in Arizona, with immersive training in American constitutionalism and civics. These also include discussion of comparative political systems, bringing in speakers or deploying resources from Victims of Communism to help students understand the difference between that ideology and America’s free institutions. We are looking for 28 K-12 social studies teachers passionate about creating engaging civics lessons for their students. As a cohort member, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with other educators who share your advocacy for civics.

Welcome to the Civic Literacy Curriculum: Below is the complete curriculum designed to make teaching or learning civics education easier for you. The content was developed by several members of Arizona State University's faculty and current and former educators. The curriculum is organized around and incorporates the United States Customs and Immigration's Naturalization Test, provided to those interested in becoming naturalized citizens of the United States.

Faculty at the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership have developed a curriculum for the 100+ questions from the official test, which is comprehensive of all content appearing in the 2008/2021 and... Our curriculum exceeds the USCIS test in helping students learn the facts tested and the underlying concepts, ideas, and events. The materials include: In 2024, The Civic Literacy Cohort, comprised of 28 practicing educators from around the nation, created over 400 lessons to make this a proper K-12 curriculum. Use the curriculum guides as you see fit. They are designed to be a core civics curriculum or to augment a particular area of your social studies program.

Today, I get to onboard the 2024 Civic Literacy Curriculum Cohort, and I couldn't be more excited to work with such incredible educators from around the nation! It is a true testament to the hard-working social studies educators we have in our nation. The Cohort consists of: Educators from 16 states 6 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Teachers 4 James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation Fellows 8 Teachers of the Year 7 Teachers with ELA experience 24... It is important to me that the curriculum is built by practicing educators with the facilitation of the Center for American Civics and our faculty.
