In my elective class we had to create a game with a team of our choice that taught two educational topics of our choice. There were different game genres you could have picked such as an action game with a maze code and or a chase code but you could have also made a hidden object game. Your game was required to have multi levels with complete code. For my game I made a three level game with all the game genres so maze, chase, and hidden object. Our learning topic was multi step math equations and our secondary topic was predator and there prey. We did this by having an equation to solve and if you solved it right you fed the predator your goal in this game was to feed the predator and go to the next...
Hello everyone! My name is Jayda and I am a 7th grade student here at AdVENTURE. This is my 2nd year attending AdVENTURE STEM i'm just so happy to be attending an amazing school. It has been a crazy adventure at this school the projects, the friends, and the memories are priceless. This school has changed a lot since last year new teachers, new classmates, and new technology although I thought AdVENTURE couldn't get any better it always does whether it's just better projects or better... After being here for a year I have realized that AdVENTURE is not like any other schools it's more engaging this school makes me want to come to school everyday it’s all because AdVENTURE...
First, being an AdVENTURE student means to be collaborative with everyone.Being collaborative with everyone just means that you are able to work with EVERYONE because here at there are many group projects and in... It also means that you are always contributing to your group in some way. What I mean by that is that everyone should put in a fair amount of work into your project because no one likes people who don’t do anything in a project and people also... Secondly, you have to be cooperative. I have learned that a key element to being successful in AdVENTURE is that you have to have an open mind because trust me people aren't always going to agree with you all the... This will definitely work in group projects because with groups you have to listen to everyone ideas or you could be missing out on a great idea and also for groups to run smoothly...
Lastly, you have to be very responsible. In AdVENTURE you have to have a lot of responsibility because there are a lot of projects so you have to be responsible enough to balance them all out but still have enough time... You also have to responsible enough to turn in all your work on time due to the new “Once a Zero Always a Zero” policy once you get a zero it stays that way... You always have to be responsible especially in class because there are a lot of distractions but you just have to be responsible enough to stay on task and finish whatever you have to... In the end AdVENTURE will be very beneficial for the future because the future will be run by technology and knowing how to use it and how everything works will allow you to have... I would recommend AdVENTURE for everyone who is willing to work hard and be as successful as they can be which then we will be able to reach our goal to TAKE OVER THE...
Hey, Jayda here, I am going to be sharing the best and worse at adventure and what can make those times harder or better in hopes to make your adventure experience amazing. AdVENTURE can be overwhelming at times and this guide will make your time here better. All the projects, deadlines, and crammed presentations could be a lot to handle at times that's for sure, but what if you had tips and tricks that could help relieve the pressure of it... Being in 8th grade AdVENTURE student I know how many advantages this program has given me like learning how to code or collaboration because in the future those are key things that jobs will... I want you guys to realize all the benefits that come out of this program and how to enjoy your time here while avoiding problems. First I want to tell you what to expect this year overall as far as difficulties, and what's expected of you, because trust me it's a lot!
If you’re expecting to ease through 8th grade no problem and just go to highschool, GET THAT OUT OF YOUR HEAD!! It is by far the hardest year at AdVENTURE, with all the high expectations and the loads of homework it's hard not wanting to quit 25/8. First thing you should expect is to write tons of essays that are a pain in the butt and take quizzes on books which is extremely overall stressful. Don’t forget all the repetitive talks at the beginning of class that are supposed to take “a few minutes of your time” but end up taking most of the class period. In 8th grade just expect things to definitely change. Be prepared to do a lot of independent work meaning there is minimum teaching from the teacher and more learning from articles, you won’t learn much so in your free time watch some extra...
Also there are high expectations being the “legacy class” so imagine all the pressure you have on you now times two. So I just wish some teachers were more empathetic and actually didn’t take their position of power for granted and actually listened to us students. Don’t worry, there is also so much good that comes out of this year. You will end up doing so many fun projects in your elective class and just bond with all your classmates as this one huge happy family. This year you will build cool models in elective and you will be able to make create your own project one something your compassionate about. In social studies you will learn about the world now and what is currently happening along with some american history which is mostly interesting.
As I mentioned your class becomes so close together that everyone is friends with everyone and we all just like to help each other out. Actually our class has this huge group chat with the whole class in it where we all just get to connect more with each other. I wouldn’t change this class at all, being the last single class from the original AdVENTURE has it’s perks...everyone loves you, I will dearly miss it. If I could go back to the beginning of eighth grade and do it all over again I would not procrastinate on anything and try to finish everything as soon as possible. I would make sure to complete all my work on time and with my best effort. Lastly, I would want to start my e-portfolio ahead of time so that i’m not waiting until the last minute to try and complete it because it gets hectic at the end of the...
But I am still happy with how my year played out I had a good time. I wouldn’t trade my experience for the world, and I finally got student of the month which is pretty rad. School Loop is one of the tech tools we use to check our grades, upcoming assignments, due dates, and emails. Everyone I know finds it very useful and helpful and so do I. I think this helps us with responsibility because we can see our grades, so it's up to us to do something about it. I really enjoyed this app because it helped me keep up with my grades and know what I need to improve on.
Through Elective, we did three major projects, a hidden objects game, an action game, and a team game. A hidden objects game is where you have to find items in a certain background, and you learn about that object. An action game is when you allow the user of the game to have a player and interactive with the characters of the game in order to learn something. And a team game is where you (obviously) work with a team, and make at least three working levels, which all help players learn different aspects of a certain topic. For this page, the largest accomplishment would be the team game. I worked with two of my friends, Sally and Jenna.
I was the programmer of the game, Sally was the writer, and Jenna was the artist. We decided to make a game about the life of a Monarch Butterfly, the player has to go through many different tasks in order to help the butterfly survive. This is my largest accomplishment out of all the games I have done. And this is because I had time, and I really had an opportunity to make my game different. Because when we started with the hidden object and action games, there was not much time in order to make the game really different and cool. So when we had the time, I had a lot of ideas in order to make our game successful, and I spent most of my time going online and trying to find new pieces...
And throughout this process, is where I felt like I began to truly understand code. And I began to depend on myself in order to write the code, instead of continuously looking at code tutorials, and at that point, I began to feel really proud of myself, because of... I also finally understood some simple code, even though, at this rate, I should I understood the code that I write. Towards the beginning of the school year we had a project in science called the "cell wars" were basically you were assigned a part of the cell and had to make an ad campaign... My group and I were assigned the Vacuole which is the part of the cell that stores nutrition for the cell and waste so that the rest of the cell is protected from contamination. For our ad campaign we made a video and a poster.
I really enjoyed this project and it seemed like everyone else did as well it was very competitive and everyone was trash talking other groups and it was just a real scenario of how... dumb mitochondria! In our elective, we have been designing games all year! We made two games by ourselves, The Action Game and The Hidden Object Game. Starting In January 2016, we started to work on our final team game. (Shown on the left is our finished game) My team and I (Sally and Jenny) decided to make it about Monarch Butterflies.
Sally knew the most about the Monarch butterflies when we started. However, we all felt really accomplished after we finished. We really learned a lot about coding and monarch butterflies, of course. Overall, my team and I created and amazing action Game and we hope that all the children/adults that play this game really get the learning topic of the game and of course HAVE FUN! In elective we did this project called future city were you made a virtual city and ated like you were the mayors of the city you would try to do everything in you power... You had to make sure you city was running smoothly you had to add things to protect them and do all the other things to ensure a fun safe environment.
I will now tell you about our city and what would be the best for it. Our names are Michael, Jenny, and Jayda. Our city is called Amber Falls. The vegetable and protein that we are planning to put in our city corn and chicken. We decided on corn because you can make so many things out of corn. Some things that you can make out of corn are corn tortillas, cornbread, cornmeal, cornstarch, popcorn, and many more.
We picked chicken because it is the most healthiest protein and we want our citizens to be nice and healthy. I think that these foods are very helpful and healthy so our citizens can adapt to a healthy environment. So that was a little bit about our community and what it would look and be like. To the side I added a powerpoint about what we did each day. The “Disaster Proof House” project was definitely a fun project for the whole class. We were all assigned a group of people to work with.
When we get assigned groups, I feel like it really teaches me how to work with other people that I’m not familiar working with. It prepares me for the future and strengthens my collaboration skills. This project was all about picking a place in the world with a disaster that occurs there and building a house that could survive it! So my team and I all came together and choose Paraguay with the natural disaster floods. We now had to come together and think of a way we could build a house and make it so that it could survive a flood! This was the best project that I’ve ever done because of how much work my team and I put into this house.
